Eco Council
Our school is very proud to be an Eco-School which recognises our commitment to developing strategies that sustain and enhance resources and the environment.
We are in the process of selecting our new 2025/26 Eco-Councillors for each class who will meet every half term to ensure we raise environmental awareness, improve our school environment and also create financial savings by reducing our use of electricity, paper and water throughout the school.
Litter
As a school, we are committed to keeping our local community safe and tidy. First and foremost, this means keeping our school grounds clear of litter. Throughout the school year, our Eco Councillors will be involved with litter picking on the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds.
Recycling
We understand the importance of reduce, re-use and recycle.
The Eco Councillors are asked to ensure that the lights are turned off in their classroom when their class leaves to go for assembly, P.E. and Computing lessons.
Every classroom has a scrap paper draw which contains spare worksheets that have not been used. The children can use this paper for any jottings/drawings that they want to make and to draw on during wet play or lunch times.
The Eco Council helps to promote and run our battery and pen recycling schemes. They collect used pens and batteries from their classrooms and place them in recycling bins devoted to each resource. Families can join in with these recycling schemes at home by sending in used pens and batteries with their child, who will then give them to their class Eco Councillor.
We also have a clothes recycling facility which is located under the veranda on the KS2 playground so families are invited to make use of this.
World Environment Day
Every year, we celebrate ‘World Environment Day’ in June. Last year, every class throughout the school took part in this event which gave us the opportunity to learn about plastic pollution that occurs around the world and the detrimental effects it is having on the environment and wildlife.
